In this assignment, you will: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of individual writing processes, 2. Develop ideas with appropriate support and attribution, 3. Write in a style appropriate to audience and purpose 4. Read, reflect and respond critically to a variety of texts (you MUST use 4 outside resource in total and 3 of them MUST be peer-reviewed articles), and 5. Use Edited American English in academic essays.
Role: You will be the writer and expert on your paper’s topic. You are joining a larger conversation which consists of a group of scholars/experts on your chosen topic. For the Annotated Bibliography, you may use first-person (“I”) because you will need to tell me how you plan on utilizing your resources.
Audience: Your audience is 3-fold: Me (Professor Chandler), Your Classmates (Peer Review), and Other Persons Interested in Your Topic (everything submitted to the internet is open to the public). Therefore, you need to keep in mind that this is an academic argument in which you will be establishing your authority to these audience members.
Format: Your format is an academic paper. Please have 1-inch margins all around with your name, Professor Chandler, ENGL 1301-239, and the date (Day Month Year) in the UPPER LEFT corner. Then, insert a header at a half-inch margin in the TOP RIGHT with only your last name and the page number. Your paper must be in TIMES NEW ROMAN size 12-pt font. Your paper should be in MLA format and follow proper MLA citation rules for sources you have addressed.
Write the complete MLA citation for the article first and make sure it is double-spaced and in alphabetical order (A to Z). Then, under your citation, hit Tab and being writing a paragraph answering the questions listed below in the Topic section. Make sure this paragraph is single-spaced. Refer to my MLA Tutorial Video for more help concerning how to format an Annotated Bibliography. You can also use the screen shots below as a model for what an Annotated Bibliography is supposed to look like. (*Your paragraphs/annotations do NOT have to be as long as mine. This is a document from a graduate course I took, so I do not expect your paragraphs/annotations to be as long as mine are in the screenshots.*)
Topic: For this paper, you are gathering credible resources in order to support the stance you are taking for your arguable research topic. Make sure that your source is arguable and NOT a matter of taste/opinion NOR a matter of belief or faith. Also, make sure at least 3 sources are Peer Reviewed. In total you need 4 sources, and 3 of those need to be Peer Reviewed.
Please structure your paper as follows:
Provide the complete MLA citation of your source (Author’s Name, Article’s Name, Publication Information, etc.). Then, in a paragraph under that citation,
Summarize the article in a few sentences.
Mention the author’s credibility and what type of evidence the author uses to support their argument, briefly.
Describe how your source will contribute to your research paper and how you plan on using the resource to support/refute your research topic. This is the most important element of your annotation paragraph.
