Project Paper

In this assignment, students will pull together the capstone project change proposal components they have been working on throughout the course to create a proposal inclusive of sections for each content focus area in the course. For this project, the student will apply evidence-based research steps and processes required as the foundation to address a clinically oriented problem or issue in future practice.

Develop a 1,250-1,500 written project that includes the following information as it applies to the problem, issue, suggestion, initiative, or educational need profiled in the capstone change proposal:

Background
Clinical problem statement.
Purpose of the change proposal in relation to providing patient care in the changing health care system.
PICOT question.
Literature search strategy employed.
Evaluation of the literature.
Applicable change or nursing theory utilized.
Proposed implementation plan with outcome measures.
Discussion of how evidence-based practice was used in creating the intervention plan.
Plan for evaluating the proposed nursing intervention.
Identification of potential barriers to plan implementation, and a discussion of how these could be overcome.
Appendix section, if tables, graphs, surveys, educational materials, etc. are created.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. This is 300 points assessment please be careful with the assessment.

The biggest mistakes students make on the final paper is not following the grading rubric.

The areas that students fail to properly use critical thinking to engage is the following:

Revisions Incorporated as Directed by Instructor

This area cannot be left blank. Throughout the course remarks have been made in the grading rubric on every assignment including areas that needed to be addressed in the journals. If the areas in the journals were not addressed, then they were not addressed in your project.

Introduction and Background – There is a difference – both should be in the paper

The introduction introduces the reader to what the paper will be about, and the last sentence is the thesis statement
The background gives the background of the clinical problem.

Clinical Problem Statement

The statement should be detailed, clear, and logically presented.

Purpose of Change Proposal

It is to make official suggestions about why a change should occur, so with that being said – you explain why the change is needed. What is the purpose of making a change? What/who will it benefit if you do? For example? If you developed a plan to help decrease burnout, what benefit will it have for not just the unit, but for the patients?

PICOT

PICOT is present, complete, and incorporates additional relevant details and critical thinking to engage the reader. This means the PICOT question must be present and explained. Do not just write a research question. Details mean details.

Literature Search

This means you describe how you found the articles you used to support your project. Remember week 1 discussion when we talked about GCU library, CINAHL and other search engines and how you found the articles you needed. You write a paragraph about that. How you search for the articles should match how I find them when I look.

Literature Evaluation

The literature evaluation must be supported by articles. It must have citations and be detailed. You do not have to show all 8 but you do have to evaluate literature.

Utilization of Change or Nursing Theory

This means you must discuss how theory supports your research proposal. Theory utilization content is present, compete, and incorporates additional relevant details and critical thinking to engage the reader.

Implementation Plan and Outcome Measures

You must show how you plan to implement this project and what outcomes you expect to get and why.

Use of Evidence-Based Practice in Intervention Plan

This is where you summarize and apply EBP to substantiate the decisions you made while developing your implementation plan. What EBP did you find that you are applying to your practice change?

Plan for Evaluating Proposed Nursing Intervention

This is where you discuss your measuring tools. Rationales are evident. Measuring tools should be part of the appendix

Student may use information from papers already submitted in this class only to assist with completion of the final paper. For example: If you want to use what was written in the PICOT paper you can do so but you must cite yourself:

Evidence to support your research must include the 8 articles in your literature evaluation table or others if you have found better articles for your project since creating the table.
