For application assignment one you put together a reference list of seven sources. Choose one of the non-scientific sources and one of the peer-reviewed journal articles. For each of those two sources answer the first four following questions:

1. What is the argument the author is making and what is the evidence s/he uses to support that argument? (3 points for each article)

2. What is the population the author seems to want to generalize to? Why do you say that? (2 points for each article)

3. What type of sample did the author use to represent that population? (3 points for each article)

4. In terms of the 3 rules of sampling, why do you think that sample is or is not representative? (3 points for each article)

5. For the peer reviewed article, describe the population the author(s) are interested in. Describe the sample they used to represent that population. Describe how well that sample represents that population, using the three rules of sampling. (8 points)
