1400-word artifact research report must produce it in proper essay format, double-spaced. This assignment must cite at least three scholarly published sources. (Generally speaking, a scholarly source is one that uses footnotes.) Research reports without footnotes or without equivalent reference notes including page numbers (where available) will be given a grade of 0.

The report must focus on the chosen artifact as a technological object. It will be graded on the description and characterization of its subject (what technology is presented: 30%), on the account of its historical origins and context (from what era it is: 30%), and on your critical evaluation of its historical importance (why was it chosen to be collected by a museum: 25%).
The report must include a bibliography of at least three scholarly books or papers published in scholarly journals. (Generally speaking, a scholarly book or paper is one that itself includes footnotes.) Non-scholarly sources may be used as well. Field reports without footnotes or without equivalent notes including a bibliographical reference and page numbers will be given a mark of 0. All assigned work must be typed, double-spaced.
