As a geotechnical engineer, you are required by your Client to:
(i) [15%] Identify, explain and discuss the implications of the Northgate geology on the construction site
(ii) [15%] Evaluate, justify and interpret the information contained in the Site Investigation information
(Appendix) with regards to the ground conditions encountered
(iii) [10%] Develop an appropriately scaled and informative geological profile (cross-section) for Section D-D based on Borehole GA2 and GA4 for the site. Label the different soil layers clearly. Identify and classify each soil layer including the bedrock. Provide a legend.
(iv) [20%] Conceptually (without embarking on any detailed calculations) assess, justify qualitatively and evaluate the suitability of your interpreted ground conditions for:
a. bearing capacity for the design and construction of shallow foundations
b. lateral earth pressure for the design and construction of a 6m deep basement carpark
(v) [30%] Highlight (with aid of schematics etc.) and discuss the possible design considerations, construction challenges and how to overcome the geotechnical issues related to the project due to the presence of the nearby:
a. stream
b. hill
c. existing buildings
