Dred Scott decision and failed compromises

The Dred Scott decision: The “worst” SCOTUS decision in pre-civil war American history. It set the cause of civil rights back, ruined the many territorial compromises between North and South and invalidated Congressional power to regulate slavery throughout the nation. Agree, disagree or qualify this statement with specific evidence.

NOTE: In order for your answer to be convincing, you must reference the relevant issues present in some or all of the following events:
Kansas-Nebraska Act/ “Bleeding Kansas”, The Missouri Compromise, Nat Turner’s Rebellion, The Wilmot Proviso, the publication of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and (finally) the Lincoln-Douglas debates.
