Annotated Bibliography Assignment
Purpose: This assignment provides students with an opportunity to understand and apply research in the counseling profession.

Description: You will read five recent (within the last ten years) research articles related to a professional counseling-related topic of your choice. You will then write a paper that includes an annotation on each article. In the first part of the assignment, you will include a 2-3 paragraph introduction on the relevance of the topic for the profession of clinical mental health or school counseling. You will then complete five annotations in the second part of the assignment. For each annotation, please include a critical analysis of the study (i.e., discuss limitations) and provide a suggestion for future research. After writing five annotations, please include an additional section in which you discuss how you believe you will apply the information in each research article in your future career as a counselor. Please follow APA style, and refer to the following website for guidelines on writing an annotated bibliography: http://www.library.cornell.edu/olinuris/ref/research/skill28.htm Please contact the instructor and provide a brief description about the topic in which you are interested. The paper should be approximately 5-7 pages.

Annotated Bibliography Assignment Guidelines:

1. Provide an introduction in which you discuss the relevance of the topic for clinical mental health or school counseling (2-3 paragraphs).

2. Provide five annotations on research articles. Each annotation should include a description of the key findings, a discussion of at least one limitation, and at least one suggestion for future research (5 paragraphs).

3. Provide a conclusion section in which you consider how you will apply the information in the articles to your future career as a counselor (1-2 paragraphs).

4. Include a reference page at the end of the paper.
