25% of you grade will be assessed on a Research Paper, where you will employ one remote interview of a Criminal Justice Actor (“CJA”) and within your paper, you will be expected to cover interview questions you have posed to the CJA as well as your answers. You will also include research in the field of interest that you have selected to question your CJA on. You should rely on both interviewing skills and your library research skills in developing your paper. Your paper is expected to be between 15 – 20 pages, double-spaced, with Times Roman 12” font and handed in electronically to me in PDF format. It should include a Title Page and Cited Works page and comply with APA referencing. This assignment is due June 22, 2020 – please submit electronically by e-mail through Moodle.
You are not a paid researcher thereby engaging the direct applicability of the KPU Research Interviews policy, however please comply with the rules around confidentiality and ensure that your CJA is aware of your Research Paper, the topic your studying, and the questions you would like to ask them in advance so that they can prepare.
The interview of the CJA should be incorporated into your paper by taking the salient parts of the interview and placed, if you have consent, with quotes, and also generally into the paper. You do not need to keep a recording or transcripts of the interview. Please ensure that the person you are interviewing understands the rules around confidentiality. Please identify your CJA by occupation in your paper. You do not need to include their name.
Breakdown of Marking Guide
1. Formal compliance with APA Referencing and including a title page, body of the paper (introduction, paragraphs elaborating on your thesis, conclusion, works cited, and appendixes, if applicable) = 2%
2. Identifying a CJA that relates to a topic in the chapter or course materials (if you are uncertain about who you identify as a CJA, please ask me prior to proceeding to interviewing your CJ for approval). The questions and answers are relevant to the CJA in the overall topic of your research paper that you incorporate into your thesis = 10%
3. Grammar, Structure, and Flow of topic conveyed in the paper = 3%
4. Soundness of argument, research and development of thesis in your paper = 10%
