Problem Statement
Emotional Intelligence and Wellness is a topic among educational leaders. Emotional intelligence refers to rational thinking, supposedly without any emotion (Jennings & Greenberg, 2009). The problem is that many leaders in educational institutions lack training and support to handle the increased stress and anxiety they face in this changing society. Districts often fail to provide this type of training to the leaders, and instead focus on the teachers and students. Furthermore, the application of emotional intelligence in leadership is a psychological concept that most of the educational managers lack (Jennings & Greenberg, 2009). There is a lack of research demonstrating effecting ways to build Administrators’ understanding and application of Emotional Intelligence. When discussing this topic with the office of the Superintendent, there was clear agreement that there was a lot of training for teachers and students, but a lack of how to implement that with leadership and how it pertains to them. Reacting to the problem of emotional intelligence is essential in the educational setup as it will enhances the leadership- teacher relationship (Elias & Arnold, 2006).
