Below you will find THREE questions, spanning the entirety of the book America: A Narrative

History. You will need to select ONE

question to answer, following this essay format: 3

paragraphs MINIMUM, with introduction, body of evidence, and conclusion. Spelling and

Grammar WILL be counted in this. You will have your book, Powerpoint presentations, and any

notes you have taken during class to complete your question. Assume that I know *nothing*

about the answers to these questions, and answer as completely and thoroughly as possible. The

Final is worth 130 points, or a total of 40% of your grade.

1) How did societal institutions and themes – politics, religion, economy, cultural norms –

shape the growth and progression of the United States on the American continent? Why

were they a factor in the development of this country, and how did they contribute to its

success or…even perhaps, failure, in the form of Civil War? Choose one theme and

follow its evolution through the development of the English colonies into the United states.
