Study Questions – each question is worth 10 points

Complete and submit the following questions. They will include a series of content, integration, and synthesis related to the reading assignments. Questions will cover the content of the material and will require the learner to think critically and contextually about the subject matter. Your responses must be complete, using terminology and concepts presented in the primary textbook as well as supplementary resources. Be sure to write in complete sentences and use good grammar, double-spacing, 12 point font, with one inch margins. Be sure to cite your resources and provide the references using APA format. Remember to reference all work cited or quoted by the text authors. You should be doing this often in your responses.

Chapter 9 – Complete questions 2, 3, 4, and 9 (pgs. 320 -321).

2. Do women have the same citizen obligations as men, especially with respect to military service? Should they have the same obligations? What difference does it make?
3. Think about any recent controversies over gender and the military: (a) sexual harassment in the military, including the Tailhook events; (b) coeducation and gender integration in the military, including at academies and in barracks; (c) gays in the military. What stand would you take on each of these controversies? What can we learn about sex/gender systems by looking at these questions?
4. A lot of people talk about women’s issues. Are there really things that are distinctively “women’s issues”? What are they? Does using this term imply that these issues affect women only? Why is family policy or policy on children often considered a women’s issue? Is there such a thing as a “men’s issue”?
9. Are there any major differences between men and women in their attitudes toward political issues or in the candidates or parties they support? If so, why do they exist? What difference does it make?
