Assignment Prompt

Part I of your final paper will be based on the analysis of the four articles you’ve been engaged with in your log assignments, demonstrating your “critical” understanding of the topic and the various approaches to it. This is not really a compilation of of your logs, though. Your task instead is to present the debate, not the articles (the articles are there as examples of the debate).

To effectively communicate the ins and outs of the debate/conversation on your topic, you will still need to present in detail your analysis of the articles’ strengths and weaknesses as support for how you see the debate itself. What you should avoid is organizing the paper according to the Asking the Right Questions list of questions. The patterns you notice in the analysis you created in answering those questions should instead lead to your paper’s organization.

After receiving your instructor’s feedback, you will include a modified version of this assignment as part of the Final Paper, Part II, due next week. The debate overview work you do this week will serve as the launch pad for the position and proposal paper you will write next week (that’s when you’ll finally be able to say what YOU think about the topic).
