Guidelines for Family research paper: Worth total of 30 points, late papers will not be considered.
I. Students will research and critically analyze an issue related to a family social topic – student will choose this topic 1st week of class. This is NOT an opinion paper. The professor must approve your choice of topic. The student will present the paper as a power point presentation at the end of the semester.
II. You must address your topic in how it relates to the family, the most basic social unit of human society.
III. Below, choose how your chosen issue relates to one of the three following frameworks:
1. Social and Cultural Issues:
• Human beings are very social creatures. We never would have survived without strong social ties, which is what has bound our species together through the ages. Cover the most important aspects of your topic and how it relates to society in a specific culture. You can choose any culture or address human culture as a whole. Discuss some of the most profound as well as obscure aspects.
2. Policy and Legal/Court Cases
• Policy is what drives human civilization and our legal system is the backbone of society. Law and order both protect our rights but are also the catalyst for civil unrest, bringing about change. Cover the most important aspects of your topic and how it can drive policy to change. Discuss some of the most important aspects of famous legal cases.
3. Ethical Implications and how it relates to Healthcare
• All professions adhere to an ethical code as ethics are the framework for institutions such as nursing. Delve into the ethical implications concerning your topic and discuss how they relate to the Healthcare of patients.
IV. Then you must describe how Family Nurse Practitioners can take the lead in defining and developing these issues in the future
• FNPs have a unique place among APRNs in that we have a responsibility to the Healthcare of our patients throughout all stages of human development. We are leaders within our profession and often have leadership roles in our practices. Identify how FNPs can take the lead in developing the future of your topic.
V. All papers MUST adhere to the criteria for APA Style – Organization and flow of ideas
• This paper should be no more than 4 pages long not counting title and reference page. Correct and timely citations with proper referencing will count along with proper spelling and grammar.
