This topic requires that you read the article by Lewellyn Jones (to be posted on Moodle), perform random acts of kindness, and consider the experience of conducting the acts and the observed responses to your acts through the literature on happiness.
Product: For each option, the paper must be 12-14 double-spaced pages long, and formatted with references according to American Psychological Association (APA) style. APA is the stylistic format most commonly used by sociologists. Given APA style dictates a title page, an abstract page, and references which will take up at least 2 pages, please make sure that the BODY of your paper is at least 9-11 pages long. The final paper, as well as all other documents for the term paper will be written in a formal style, suitable for submission to an academic journal (with references, formal tone). Again, all paper components and references should be written in APA style. APA style is described here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/research/r_apa.html, http://www.apastyle.org/. Regardless of which option you select, please include a Personal Reflections section as part of your paper. In this section of the paper, consider ways you might integrate and apply what you have learned across your Elon experiences as part of the project. Your capstone project should reflect knowledge and experiences gained over your time at Elon. You may integrate reflections on your experiential learning experiences at Elon: leadership development, service learning, internships/co-ops, study abroad/intercultural experiences, and student undergraduate research that pertain to your selected topic. In addition, please also use the Personal Reflections section as a place to reflect upon personal and social responsibility, ethical reasoning, and/or global citizenship. Again, your paper should have a scientific formal tone, and should not be written in first-person. If you wish to include personal reflections you may do so in a designated “Personal Reflections” section at the end of your paper in which you use first-person voice.
